Toronto Mayor and Ontario Premier Host 50th Anniversary Celebration of the
Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada

 

Congratulatory message from Prime Minister Trudeau presented at historical anniversary event at Nathan Phillips Square

 

 

Toronto, ON – The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at held a historical celebration to commemorate its 50 year anniversary in Canada. The community is a leading contributor to Canadian society through its various social, humanitarian, interfaith and peace building initiatives. The event was attended by His Worship John Tory, Toronto Mayor, Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Ontario Premier and various Councillors, MPPs and MPs, who praised the contributions of the community. The Mayor said: “You live by the motto of ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ and universal brotherhood. I am proud to be your friend for more than 30 years.”

Premier Kathleen Wynne remarked: “Your generosity is demonstrated through your consistent humanitarian efforts. I want to congratulate you on 50 years of success and for truly helping make Canada such a great place to live." A special certificate of recognition by the Government of Ontario was presented by Premier Kathleen Wynne to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at.

A congratulatory message from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was also read out by Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, which stated: “The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at is known for its motto ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ and its devotion to universal brotherhood. This milestone offers a special opportunity to showcase the teachings of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at to Canada. On behalf of the Government of Canada I pray for its future success.”

As part of its 50 year celebration, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at presented a cheque for a million pounds of food to Canadian food banks. Also at the event, the Community pledged $100,000 for Fort McMurray wildfire evacuee relief through the community’s official charity wing – Humanity First. Members were urged to raise more funds for this cause.

Thousands of Muslims from across the Greater Toronto Area gathered to attend this historical event and partake in a large congregational prayer outside Toronto City Hall. 

Mr. Lal Khan Malik, National President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada, also shared his sentiments: “I can speak for all Canadian Ahmadi Muslims when I say living to Canada was one of the greatest blessings we have ever received.” He went on to say, “Canada indeed is the best country in the world and Toronto is the greatest city on earth."
