Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Successful in Promoting Peaceful Dialogue as Canada’s Largest Islamic Convention Concludes

Over 17,000 gathered at the International Centre in Mississauga for the 39th Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at Canada. The three-day event – chaired by the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at, Mr. Lal Khan Malik – featured addresses by numerous prominent dignitaries, including the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Stephen Harper; Minister of Defence, Jason Kenney; Liberal Party of Canada leader, Justin Trudeau; Consul General of India, Akilesh Mishra; and Consul General of Pakistan, Asghar Golo. On the final day of the Convention, First Nations Regional Chief of Ontario, Isadore Day, and other First Nation Chiefs commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at for its persistence in promoting peace and tolerance. 

This year’s Sir Zafrullah Khan Award for Distinguished Public Service – presented to a nominee with illustrious service to Canadian society – was given to Irwin Cotler for his humanitarian efforts. 

The President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at, Mr. Lal Khan Malik, expressed, “Canada’s Jalsa Salana (Annual Convention) has continually provided a platform for people of all walks of life to join and engage in positive, peaceful dialogue. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama`at places great importance on tolerance, inclusion and unity, and will continue to uphold its slogan of Love for All, Hatred for None.”
