Insha`Allah! Eidul Adhiya will be celebrated across Canada on Friday, September 1st, 2017. It is celebrated to remember the spirit of the sacrifice of Hadhrat Ibrahim (as) (Prophet Abraham) for the sake of Allah.
The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said:
"The first thing to be done on this day (first day of Eidul Adhiya) is to pray; and after returning from the prayer we slaughter our sacrifices (in the name of Allah) and whoever does so, he acted according to our Sunnah (traditions)."
Eid is a day of much rejoicing and happiness. Muslims offer the special prayers in the morning and then enjoy the rest of the day with their friends and families. Eid is celebrated for three days. Eidul Adhiya marks the end of Hajj.
The fifth act of Islamic worship is the performing of the Hajj or the pilgrimage to Mecca. A Muslim must perform this pilgrimage at least once in his lifetime if economic and political conditions are favourable. The focal point of this pilgrimage is the Ka'ba, which was rebuilt by Prophet Abraham some 4,000 years ago. Today, the Ka'ba stands in the middle of a large courtyard of Masjid al Haram or the Sacred Mosque. The courtyard of Masjid al Haram contains, besides Ka'ba, the Maqam a Ibrahim and the fountain of Zamzam. more
